History

The Company was formed in 1994, the year in which the Diavik Diamond Mine was discovered. In 2013, the Company divested Harry Winston Inc., its luxury brand business segment, and acquired a controlling interest in the Ekati Diamond Mine, taking on the new name of Dominion Diamond Corporation.

1994    Aber Diamond Corporation (later Harry Winston Diamond Corporation and Dominion Diamond Corporation) is formed.

1994    Discovery of Diavik Diamond Mine.

2003    Diavik rough diamond production starts in January. First sale of rough diamonds in March.

2004    Aber acquires 51 per cent of Harry Winston Inc., a luxury jewelry and watch retail brand.

2006    Aber brings ownership of Harry Winston Inc. to 100 per cent.

2007    The Company changes its name from Aber Diamond Corporation to Harry Winston Diamond Corporation and lists on the New York Stock Exchange.

2012  The Company announces agreement to purchase the Ekati Diamond Mine.

2013    The Company divests Harry Winston Inc. and acquires a controlling interest in the Ekati Diamond Mine, taking on the new name Dominion Diamond Corporation.

The Company’s remarkable mine assets,  the Diavik Diamond Mine and the Ekati Diamond Mine each have a rich history and heritage.
